Product Description:

The Dionaea muscipula ‘Typical’ Venus Flytrap, a classic and well-loved carnivorous plant, is available here in a convenient tissue culture cup. Each 5 x 7 cm cup contains 1-3 young plants in early growth stages, making them ideal for beginners and experienced growers alike. These fascinating plants feature the hallmark trap mechanisms that make Venus Flytraps famous, with each trap equipped to close around unsuspecting prey. These plants are propagated in a sterile environment, ready to be carefully transitioned into open-air conditions, perfect for aquariums, terrariums, or potted setups.

Instructions on How to Harden the Plant:

  1. Initial Acclimation (Weeks 1-2):
Place the tissue culture cup in a bright but indirect light area. Avoid direct sunlight at this stage, as the plants are sensitive. Open the lid of the cup slightly (about 1-2 cm) for a few hours each day to allow some airflow while maintaining high humidity levels.

  2. Gradual Lid Removal (Weeks 3-4):
After two weeks, start increasing the time the lid is open each day, aiming to leave the lid fully off for several hours by the end of week four. Keep the cup in a humid environment, such as a terrarium or near a humidity tray, to prevent drying out.

  3. Transition to Open Air (Weeks 5-6):
Once the plants have adjusted to partial exposure, transplant them into a pot with a well-draining, carnivorous plant soil mix, like peat moss and perlite, ensuring the roots remain moist but not waterlogged. Place the pot in bright, indirect light and gradually introduce them to direct morning sunlight if possible.

  4. Regular Care:
Keep the soil consistently moist, and water only with distilled or rainwater to avoid mineral buildup. With time, your Venus Flytrap will become fully acclimated and ready to display its fascinating snap-trap behavior in its new environment!
