Prepping for the Big Move
Before freeing your Nepenthes 'izumiae' from its tissue culture container, make sure you have everything you need. This includes sterile scissors, small pots with drainage, a suitable growing medium, and a setup for high humidity and warmth.
From Jar to New Home
- Sterilize your tools to prevent contamination.
- Gently open the tissue culture container to avoid sudden environmental changes.
- Carefully wash off the gel from the roots under gentle water flow, ensuring not to damage the roots.
Potting Your Plant
- Fill pots with pre-moistened sphagnum and perlite mix.
- Place the plant in the medium and secure it gently.
- Water the plant lightly with distilled or rainwater to keep the medium moist.
Hardening Off
Acclimate your plant to its new environment by gradually reducing humidity:
- Start with the plant in a plastic bag or under a humidity dome.
- Keep the plant in indirect sunlight at a cozy 20-29°C.
- Gradually open the bag or dome to decrease humidity over a few weeks.
- Watch for signs of stress and adjust the environment as needed.
Routine Care
- Light: Bright, indirect sunlight.
- Water: Keep the soil moist with distilled or rainwater.
- Humidity: Maintain 50-70% humidity.
- Feeding: Feed with insects or special fertiliser every 2-4 weeks during growth.
Keep a Keen Eye
Regularly inspect your plant for pests or diseases and adjust care as necessary. Every plant is unique and may need specific attention.
